What is transfusion medicine? In basic terms, it is the branch of medicine that deals with the transfusion of blood and blood products as part of patient treatment. But Vitalant offers so much more than that. We provide support and consultation to hospitals, transfusion and transplant centers and other health care facilities that leads to improved care and outcomes for patients in need.
One of our primary responsibilities is to understand and anticipate the needs of the hospitals and physicians we serve. This includes consulting with our health care partners about best practices for transfusion medicine and the selection of blood components for both adult and pediatric patients. Learn more about how our physicians serve a key role in sharing their knowledge of the latest advancements in transfusion medicine.
Dedicated to always improving transfusion medicine and patient care, Vitalant provides physician, laboratory management and staff education programs. As our health care partners work to do more with less, we have placed increased importance on providing convenient access to high-quality continuing education programs that teach blood banking, professional development and patient blood management skills. The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) lists Vitalant as an approved provider of continuing education programs. Many of our courses include ASCLS P.A.C.E.® credits via online self-study training modules and hosted webinars.
