Jan. 4, 2021 - Vitalant encourages people to help meet the ongoing need for blood, platelets and convalescent plasma by resolving to donate this January—National Blood Donor Month.
Dec. 8, 2020 – Vitalant encourages new and existing donors of all blood types to give one last gift this holiday season by giving blood for patients in need. Giving blood, platelets or plasma continues to be an essential activity as designated by the U.S. Surgeon General and Federal Emergency Management Agency during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nov. 17, 2020 – As the pandemic causes people to skip traveling and change family gatherings during the holidays, there are still three ways to commemorate the giving season and help support patients in need: donate blood, platelets or COVID plasma, also called convalescent plasma.
Oct. 16, 2020 – The blood supply in the United States is critically low and the majority of the country’s blood centers are reporting significant declines in their blood collections. As the nation confronts new surges of COVID-19 cases, blood services organizations across the country are joining together to urge eligible individuals to make and keep an appointment to donate blood now.
Sept. 17, 2020 – Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, Vitalant sent additional units of blood to our locations in the West and South that were forced to temporarily close donation centers and cancel blood drives due to wildfires and Hurricane Sally. In addition, Vitalant has shipped more than 500 blood units so far to other blood centers in the fire and flooding zones to support area hospitals.
Sept. 10, 2020 — To support pandemic response and preparedness efforts, today, Vitalant became the first U.S. blood services provider to release COVID-19 antibody-positive rates of more than 250,000 blood donors, June through July 2020. Those with a positive diagnostic or antibody test result are encouraged to consider registering to become a convalescent plasma donor and potentially help patients fight the disease.
