April is National Volunteer Month, and as blood drive coordinators, you already know the importance of volunteering. April is a great month to encourage your family, friends and coworkers to support your drives in new ways!

People may be looking for opportunities to volunteer during the month of April that you can leverage to make your drives even more successful. You can really get creative here! Think of community groups that you can reach out to who may be interested in partnering with you. These partnerships can start small, but if you can get your foot in the door during National Volunteer Month, it may open many more avenues to work together in the future.

There may be local groups on social media that pop up during the month of April dedicated to sharing volunteer opportunities. Those are great places to share information about your upcoming blood drives. Keep your eyes peeled when browsing your favorite social media channels for local volunteer groups. A great place to start is to search for young professional groups or local leadership groups.

For your drives already set up in April, encouraging new blood donors to try donating for the first time is a great way to celebrate volunteerism. Helping with check-in, handing out snacks and checking on donors are simple ways to get your coworkers, friends and family in the volunteer spirit, too. Aside from blood drives, there are volunteer opportunities in certain regions to assist in our administrative offices and even provide transportation services for blood products.

Most importantly, take a second to celebrate yourself. As a blood drive coordinator, you’re a model volunteer! Without your help, Vitalant wouldn’t be able to achieve its lifesaving mission. So, this April, we are thanking and celebrating your volunteerism along with the many volunteer blood donors who ensure blood is always available for patients in need. Because of volunteers like you, life doesn’t stop.
