Summer is full of sunshine and joy, especially when you’re the winner of $10,000. Our Grocery Giveaway—which ran from July 28-Aug. 29—not only resulted in two $10K winners, but the opportunity for those donors to save up to six lives. Now that’s a win-win!
We had 107,885 entries for the Grocery Giveaway, with the grand prize promising enough to buy groceries for a year. The two winners were allowed to spend the entirety of the gift card prize all in one place or spread it out among about 200 different retailers, airlines, restaurants and more. Whether it was groceries or other needs, each winner could decide.
Anthony G. of Nevada is our first $10K winner. His qualifying donation took place in August.
Boasting 21 lifetime donations with Vitalant, Anthony says he pays attention to our national promotions, so he was aware of this giveaway but never thought he would win.
“I first started donating blood after my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and needed several blood transfusions due to chemo. My son also was diagnosed with cancer and needed several transfusions. I feel donating blood is a good way to give back and an easy way to help people who are suffering,” he says.
Anthony particularly enjoys the feeling he gets when he receives an email saying his donation was used to help someone. To encourage others to give blood, he tries to communicate the importance and the urgency of the need.
“I tell people the donation process is very fast and painless. I always look forward to going in to donate. All of the people I interact with at either the Vitalant Center or the bloodmobiles are always very kind and friendly.”
Danisa M. (not pictured) of Texas is our second $10K winner. With 10 lifetime donations at Vitalant, her qualifying donation occurred in July.
When Danisa made her appointment to give blood, she was unaware of the giveaway. She was pleasantly surprised, and yes—very shocked—to find out she had won!
“I hate needles and don't ever look forward to donating,” shares Danisa. “However, I have been blessed with life and a simple action could save so many lives. Knowing that my donation can save lives is what motivated me to start donating and continues to be my motivation.”
To encourage others to give blood, Danisa would say that it’s okay to be scared to donate, and it’s okay to not love needles.
“The Vitalant staff is very professional and have very good bedside manners, therefore, help the process not be as scary. They also walk you through the whole process in case you may have any questions or concerns. I will continue to donate whether there is a monetary reward for my donation or not. If there is and I were to win, that is just an extra bonus but that doesn't define the reason I donate. Donating saves lives!”
We want to thank everyone who donated blood during the summer months, a time of critical need for patients. Your lifesaving efforts make you an everyday hero!
