On Sept. 9, 2022 the U.S. reached 1 million organ transplants according to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Vitalant’s human leukocyte antigen (HLA) laboratory team members contribute to the many lives touched by the gift of organ donation.
Suicide Prevention Awareness Month: Dylan Bowen Found His Purpose at Vitalant
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and Dylan is reflecting on his journey, including how joining the team at Vitalant helped save his life.
“That was the first moment of realization for me that I was doing something important, that I was part of a team that was saving people’s lives,” said Dylan, now a component manufacturing supervisor. “There is great satisfaction in being part of something bigger than oneself, and I have found that here.”
Honoring International Donor Recruitment Professionals Day
The Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals has declared Sept. 15 as International Donor Recruitment Professionals Day. Without donors, Vitalant wouldn’t be able to fulfill our lifesaving mission. Building successful relationships and converting them to repeat donors requires an investment of time, resources and a specific skill set. Our Donor Recruitment teams serve on the front line of attracting and retaining donors.

Recognizing Vitalant’s Nurses on National Nurses Day
National Nurses Day on May 6 celebrates those continuing to live the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the mother of modern nursing whose sanitary care efforts reduced Crimean War death rates from 42% to 2%. Nurses have always played a vital role in health care, but the past two years of facing the COVID-19 pandemic have brought the stories of these frontline heroes to the forefront.
