As summer travel season kicks into high gear, Vitalant urges blood donors to make a pit stop to give blood and help save lives. The nonprofit blood services provider is thanking donors July 8-27 with a chance to win Vitalant’s Summer Car Giveaway, a vehicle of their choice valued up to $30,000.
“Just as people heading out on a summer road trip fill up their gas tank before they go, we’re asking everyone who is eligible to help boost the summer blood supply,” Vitalant Senior Director of Communications Nick Gehrig said.
“It only takes about an hour of your time to help ensure blood is available for patients in critical need.”
Every two seconds, a patient in the U.S. needs blood. Surgeries, accidents and ongoing medical treatments can all require lifesaving blood transfusions.
Donors of all blood types are urgently needed, especially type O, the most transfused blood type. O-negative can be used to help any patient when there is no time to test the patient and O-positive is nearly as versatile.
