Thanks to the generosity of Vitalant blood and platelet donors who gave in the recent past, this week Vitalant sent additional units of blood to its locations that were forced to temporarily close donation centers and cancel blood drives due to wildfires and Hurricane Sally. In addition, Vitalant has shipped more than 500 blood units so far to other blood centers in the fire and flooding zones to support area hospitals.
“Our hearts go out to all those affected by the wildfires in the West and hurricane flooding in the South,” said Cliff Numark, chief of marketing and senior vice president of donor services. “Eligible donors in areas not impacted by these natural disasters can help ensure a sufficient blood supply in their local area and also help ensure our blood supply can support disaster-impacted areas where blood drives have been disrupted.”
After first meeting local needs, Vitalant’s distribution network can move lifesaving donations across the country to help ensure blood is available when and where it’s needed most.
